(English) GANHRI Sub-Committee on Accreditation Recommends that HRCSL be reaccredited with “A” Status

The Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) Sub-committee on Accreditation (SCA) recommended that the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) be reaccredited with “A” status.

The HRCSL submitted its application for reaccreditation on 29 September 2023 and attended a virtual interview by the SCA on 2 May 2024. Following its review, the SCA informed the HRCSL on 9 May 2024 that the HRCSL will be reaccredited with “A” status. This reaccreditation recognises that the HRCSL’s current mandate, appointment process, and work adequately meet the standards required by the Paris Principles on the Status of National Institutions.

In its report, the SCA also made several key recommendations with respect to enhancing the effectiveness and independence of the HRCSL. The HRCSL remains committed to fully implementing these recommendations and will continue to take measures to enhance its effectiveness and independence in line with the Paris Principles.

The HRCSL is grateful to GANHRI, OHCHR, and the Asia Pacific Forum for their guidance and support throughout this reaccreditation process.
