Anti Torture Campaign by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka 2016
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka commemorated the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture with an island wide campaign on the theme “Stop Torture”, which was launched atthe head office and was observed by its ten regional offices as well.
(English) The national campaign was launched with a public march on 30 June 2016 which was attended by His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena and Mr. Sagala Rathnayaka, Hon Minister of Law and Order. The march was led by the Human Rights Commission and had the participation of various groups, such as representatives of independent commissions, students, youth, civil society groups, family members of torture victims, religious leaders, government officials, and members of the public. The march concluded with a public performance of street and forum theatre by youth as well as sharing of experiences by a victim of torture and medical personnel who had worked with victims of torture.
