The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka expanded its regional office network by the inauguration of a regional office in Nuwara Eliya on the 08th of March, 2022. The major fortitude of establishing a new regional branch in the Nuwara Eliya district was to enhance the protection of the rights of the upcountry people who especially contributed to the plantation sector of the country, and also, to educate these people to claim inquiries during the infringement of their rights.

The new office was opened by His Excellency, S.E. Schalk, the High Commissioner of South Africa to Sri Lanka and Maldives and Justice (Retired) Rohini Marasinghe, Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, along with the Commissioners, Venerable Kalupahana Piyarathana Thero, Dr. Vijitha Nanayakkara, Dr. M.H. Nimal Karunasiri, and Ms. Anusuya Shanmuganathan. The officers of the Commission too also participated for the inauguration ceremony.
