Inquiry and Investigation Division of HRCSL has released a summary report of complaints, which were received during the year 2010.
Justice Priyantha R. P. Perera has been appointed as the new chairman of HRCSL in accordance with the provision of the amended Constitution. He assumed duty officially on 21.02.2011.
A consultation meeting was held to discuss the HRCSL Action plan 2011 on the 22nd of December 2010 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Auditorium.
A training programme on psychosocial skill was conducted for officers of HRCSL on the 16th and the 17th of December 2010 at the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration.
The HRCSL celebrated the International Human Rights Day 2010 with a national programme organized under the theme ‘Speak up Stop Discrimination’.

All communities who respect human dignity celebrate the International Human Rights Day. This year the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka celebrates this day in Anuradhapura, North Central Province.
The two decades of armed conflict made over one million of persons displaced from their habitual residences and it led to violations of human rights. Since 1997 the Commission received complaints from internally displaced persons on human rights violations. The Commission gave priority to this vulnerable group and established the project in June 2002 to address their issues. This project conducts variety of programmes to ensure the rights of IDPs. This project strengthened capacity building of the Commission particularly at the regional level. Also this project facilitates to conduct civil society meetings and regional coordinator meetings. And also provide assistance to up grade the HRCSL website.
Main objective of this project is to enhance accessibility and reporting capacity of families affected by armed conflict to deal with statutory and remedial institutions related to child rights violations and legal or social services in Batticaloa District. Series of meetings at divisional secretariat level and child rights awareness programmes at community level are carrying out under this project. The Commission organized a consultation meeting on 12th October 2010 at the HRCSL auditorium for State Officers. The meeting was headed by the Secretary of the Commission whilst the Additional Secretary (Legal), Directors of Monitoring and Review, Inquiry and Investigation and Education and Special Programmes were also present.
